Nikki Sixx (born December 11, 1958) is an American bassist, author, photographer, and the main songwriter for the heavy metal band Mötley Crüe. He has also played bass for glam metal band London, the experimental band 58, the hard rock band Brides of Destruction and more recently, Sixx:A.M.

Sixx was born on December 11, 1958 in San Jose, California.He was partially raised by his single mother, Deana Richards, and by his grandparents after his father left the family. He moved in with his grandparents, while his mother toured with bands as a back-up singer. Sixx relocated several times while living with his grandparents.

While living in Jerome, Idaho, Sixx became a teenage vandal, breaking into neighbors’ homes, shoplifting, and being expelled from school for selling drugs. His grandparents sent him to live with his mother, who had moved to Seattle. He lived there for a short time, and learned how to play the bass guitar having bought his first instrument with money earned from selling a prior guitar he had stolen.

At the age of 17, he struck out on his own, moving to Los Angeles and working jobs at a liquor store and selling vacuums over the phone while he auditioned for bands. He unsuccessfully auditioned for the Randy Rhoads version of Quiet Riot, as well as the band Sister, with Blackie Lawless of W.A.S.P. before joining London, a local glam outfit whose lineup saw numerous changes and whose major claim to fame was that its singer, Nigel Benjamin, had sung with a late version of Mott the Hoople. Sixx soon left the band.

In 1981, Sixx founded Mötley Crüe with drummer Tommy Lee, later being joined by guitarist Mick Mars through an ad in the local newspaper he was reading, then by singer Vince Neil with whom Tommy had attended high school. The band decided to self-record their debut album, Too Fast for Love, which was subsequently released in November 1981 on the band’s own Leathür Records label. After signing with Elektra Records they re-released the album. The band then went on to record and release Shout at the Devil, raising the band to national fame.

In 1989, Sixx was a featured guest artist on the album Fire and Gasoline by Steve Jones, formerly of the Sex Pistols. Sixx co-wrote and performed on the song, “We’re No Saints”.

In 1991, Sixx played bass on “Feed My Frankenstein” on Alice Cooper‘s Hey Stoopid album. Sixx also co-wrote the track “Die For You”, along with Cooper and Mötley Crüe guitarist Mick Mars (who plays guitar on the song).

In 2006 Mötley Crüe completed a reunion tour featuring all four original members and embarked on a co-headlining tour with Aerosmith, called “The Route of All Evil”. On June 24, 2008, Mötley Crüe released their ninth studio album, Saints of Los Angeles, with Sixx credited as either writer or co-writer on all tracks.

With the formation of Sixx:A.M. and the release of The Heroin Diaries, Nikki Sixx teamed up with an already existing charity known as the Covenant House and created his own branch called Running Wild in the Night . In addition to partially funding the services the Covenant House provides on its own, Sixx’s division also provides a creative arts and music program, allowing the beneficiaries of this program to discover an answer to their problems that is better than drugs. Because Sixx has been dealt an upper hand along with his success, he has been able to negotiate with people in his industry to provide the program with musical instruments and software . Sixx has arguably prevented thousands of potential drug users and rehabilitated teenage addicts from continuing to dabble in the world of drugs, as the Covenant House helped almost 78,000 youth at risk last year.

Sixx didn’t just establish the program. A portion of the profits from Sixx:A.M.’s album The Heroin Diaries Soundtrack is donated to help the Covenant House. Sixx also continues to auction off personal items to fund Running Wild in the Night. As of April 2009, he had raised over $100,000.  In addition to monetary contributions, Sixx has made personal and emotional ones. George Lozano, the director of Covenant House California, said that Sixx is “passionate about the cause; he can relate to the youth in our program and they can relate to him. He’s a great role model for these kids.”

Nikki Sixx has conquered the rock world and now the literary world. Sure, it’s just a diary, but the honesty displayed is unmatched by anyone. Real life has never been captured so well as in Heroin Diaries and even those not familiar with Sixx’s musical record will be entranced with his tales of debauchery and hopes for redemption. Heroin Diaries is not recommended book, but a must read for any and all music fans. This book takes biographies to a new plateau and sets a standard I think few will be able to match.

Hans Christian Andersen (Danish pronunciation: [ˈhanˀs ˈkʰʁæʂd̥jan ˈɑnɐsn̩]}) (April 2, 1805 – August 4, 1875) was a Danish author and poet was noted for his children’s stories, including “The Steadfast Tin Soldier“, “The Snow Queen“, “The Little Mermaid“, “Thumbelina“, “The Little Match Girl“, “The Ugly Duckling” and “The Red Shoes“. During his lifetime he was acclaimed for having delighted children worldwide and was feted by royalty. His poetry and stories, translated into more than 150 languages and still issued in great printing runs, have inspired motion pictures, plays, ballets, and animated films.

Andersen’s Fairy Tales

 It was during 1835 that Andersen published the first installment of his immortal Fairy Tales (Danish: Eventyr). More stories, completing the first volume, were published in 1836 and 1837. The quality of these stories was not immediately recognised, and they sold poorly. At the same time, Andersen enjoyed more success with two novels: O.T. (1836) and Only a Fiddler. His Specialty book that is still known today was the Ugly Duckling (1837).

Meetings with Dickens

In June 1847, Andersen paid his first visit to England and enjoyed a triumphal social success during the summer. The Countess of Blessington invited him to her parties where intellectual and famous people could meet, and it was at one party that he met Charles Dickens for the first time. They shook hands and walked to the veranda which was of much joy to Andersen. He wrote in his diary “We had come to the veranda, I was so happy to see and speak to England’s now living writer, whom I love the most.”

Ten years later, Andersen visited England, primarily to visit Dickens. He stayed at Dickens’ home for five weeks, oblivious to Dickens’ increasingly blatant hints for him to leave. Dickens’ daughter said of Andersen, “He was a bony bore, and stayed on and on. Shortly after Andersen left, Dickens published David Copperfield, featuring the obsequious Uriah Heep, who is said to have been modeled on Andersen. Andersen himself greatly enjoyed the visit, and never understood why Dickens stopped answering his letters.

“The Little Mermaid” (Danish: Den lille havfrue) is a fairy tale by the Danish poet and author Hans Christian Andersen about a young mermaid willing to give up her life in the sea and her identity as a mermaid to gain a human soul and the love of a human prince. The tale was first published in 1837 and has been adapted to various media including musical theater and animated film.

The tale of The Snow Queen is one of the best known children’s fairytales written by the outstanding Danish storyteller, Hans Christian Andersen (1805-1875). The Snow Queen was first published in 1845. Like all of Andersen’s fairy stories, the story of the Snow Queen teaches children good moral values through the triumph of good over evil, proving that love conquers all. This magical adventure is about two poor children, a boy and a girl, who are best friends until the bitter Snow Queen takes Kay away to her palace, and turns his heart to ice. Gerda, determined to find him, is challenged by many obstacles as she embarks on an unforgettable journey to rescue her kidnapped friend.

Launched with a famous haircut by Leonard and photographs by Barry Lategan in 1966, Twiggy was the world’s first supermodel. It was Lategan’s studies of her in the Daily Express that launched her as ‘the Face of 1966.’ For the next three years Twiggy helped define swinging London and she remains today an internationally recognised name and face. Appearing in all the leading magazines she has been photographed by Cecil Beaton, Richard Avedon, Melvin Sokolsky, Ronald Traeger, Bert Stern and Norman Parkinson amongst others.

In 1970 Twiggy embarked on her theatrical career. She played the lead in Ken Russell’s film of Sandy Wilson’s musical The Boyfriend (1971), for which she was awarded two Golden Globes -Most Promising Newcomer and Best Actress in a Musical. She went on to star in the Broadway musical My One and Only (1983-4), for which she was nominated for a Tony award. Twiggy continues to make regular appearances in print and on television and has more recently modelled for portraits by leading contemporary photographers including Bryan Adams, John Swannell, Mary McCartney, Steven Meisel and Sølve Sundsbo. This display of over 20 photographs will encompass the Twiggy’s life in portraits, from early shots by Lategan to the present day.

To accompany the display, the National Portrait Gallery will publish a hard-back book Twiggy: A Life in Photographs in September. A range of portraits from the Gallery’s Collection will be included in the book along with insights by Twiggy and an introduction by Terence Pepper, Curator of Photographs. An illustrated chronology – including Twiggy’s private collection of photographs, snapshots, cuttings and memorabilia – will explore her extraordinary life in front of the camera. The book (RRP £20) will contain over 100 illustrations, and a current retrospective of the portraits in Twiggy’s own words.

Mark Hayes nunca pensou em seguir a profissão de cabeleireiro. Foi com 16 anos, ao ver um profissional ser reconhecido por seu trabalho em um evento de premiação, que o hairstylist acreditou que poderia dar certo. Foi por meio de sua tia, cliente do salão SASSOON, que Hayes conseguiu seu primeiro teste para trabalhar rede, que, nesta época, ainda não era tão conhecida, mas já era vista como uma verdadeira indústria de experiências em cortes geométricos na década de 1960. Com curiosidade aguçada e um incrível talento para criar novos estilos de corte, Hayes não demorou a ser promovido. Em 2005, alcançou o auge da carreira quando foi nomeado Diretor Internacional de Criação, uma função de enorme responsabilidade, sobretudo porque Hayes segue os mesmo passos de renomados nomes da coiffure internacional como o próprio Vidal Sassoon, Roger Thompson, Christopher Brooker e Tim Hartley.

Sao Paulo, com a vinda de um convidado especial confirmada: Mark Hayes (FOTO), diretor Internacional de criação da Sassoon Academy. Fundada por Vidal Sassoon, ele ficou célebre por deixar o cabelo de Mary Quant geométrico, além de assinar o look curtíssimo Mia Farrow para o “Bebê de Rosemary”.

Sobre Vidal Sassoon
Hoje com 81 anos, Vidal Sassoon possui uma trajetória profissional de grande relevância para o mundo da coiffure. Sua carreira começou com a abertura de seu primeiro salão, montado em uma sala pequena no terceiro piso de um prédio na Bond Street, Londres. Lá ele pode experimentar novos estilos e técnicas de corte. Em 1963, apresentou ao público sua primeira grande criação: o corte bob (curto e angular, cortado em um plano horizontal). Mais tarde ficou famoso também pelo Five-Point Cut. Alguns anos depois, Sassoon emprestou seu nome a uma rede de salões que leva seu próprio nome e hoje é referência em cortes geométricos, sua marca profissional. Considerado o Picasso dos cabelos, Vidal participou de eventos importantes: foi o cabeleireiro oficial dos Jogos Olímpicos de Los Angeles, em 1984, e recebeu cinco mil dólares para realizar o corte de Mia Farrow no filme “O bebê de Rosemary”.

SITE EP – As mulheres estão mais audaciosas com corte de cabelo?
MARK HAYES – Sim, mulheres tendem a ter uma visão mais criativa da aparência, apesar de o mercado masculino de beleza aumentar num ritmo incrível.

SITE EP – Qual será a próxima tendência para o cabelo feminino?
MARK – São os estilos despretensiosos com muitas camadas sutis. O comprimento não será tão relevante, pois ele é determinado pelo bem-estar de cada um.

SITE EP – E as cores?
MARK – Luzes suaves adicionadas nas camadas inferiores do cabelo adicionam textura e movimento e, em parte, brilho extra ao cabelo.

SITE EP – Há um corte de cabelo mais requisitado na Academia Sassoon?
MARK – Os clientes da Academia Sassoon são muito receptivos e gostam de evoluir constantemente com seus looks. A maioria dos cortes são curtos e geométricos com flashes brilhantes de cor.

SITE EP – Muitos clientes pedem pelo corte de cabelo da Mary Quant, criada por Vidal Sasson, por exemplo?
MARK – O corte de cinco pontas que o Vidal cortou para Mary Quant é um grande exemplo do design do século 20. Ele já foi adaptado inúmeras vezes e evoluiu bastante.

SITE EP – O que você acha do cabelo da mulher brasileira?
MARK – Eu trabalhei com vários clientes brasileiros que são modernos e gostam de estilos glamourosos com cor.

SITE EP – Quais são as principais lições que se aprende na Academia de cabeleireiros Sassoon?
MARK – Nosso sistema educacional parece uma pirâmide. Ele começa com o método básico de corte e coloração, os fundamentos principais para se trabalhar com cabelo. Depois são incorporadas técnicas contemporâneas de corte e coloração. Consumer prices climb in June at quickest pace in 11 months, industrial production slide slows.

WASHINGTON (AP) — Consumer prices shot up in June by the largest amount in 11 months, reflecting the biggest jump in gasoline prices in nearly five years.

The Labor Department said Wednesday that inflation at the consumer level rose by 0.7 percent last month, slightly higher than the 0.6 percent increase that economists were expecting. It was the biggest one-month gain since a 0.7 percent increase last July.

The big jump was seen as a temporary blip, however. Inflation is not expected to be a problem any time soon given a severe recession which is keeping a lid on wage pressures.

The Federal Reserve reported Wednesday that industrial production fell 0.4 percent in June as the recession crimped output for a wide range of manufactured goods including cars, machinery and household appliances. However, the decline was not as severe as the 1.4 percent plunge in May, a possible sign that the recession is easing its grip.

SUMMARY

Underscoring the low threat of accelerating inflation, prices in June compared to a year ago were actually down by 1.4 percent, the biggest year-over-year decline in nearly six decades.

Core inflation, which excludes food and energy, posted a moderate 0.2 percent rise in June, slightly higher than the 0.1 percent rise that economists had expected.

The absence of an inflation threat has allowed the Federal Reserve to drive a key interest rate to a record low in an effort to fight a severe recession which is already the longest since World War II. The central bank pushed its target for the federal funds rate to near zero in December and it is expected to remain there until the nation’s unemployment rate, currently at a 26-year high of 9.5 percent, stops rising.

The 0.7 percent jump in the Consumer Price Index in June followed three months of moderation including a small 0.1 percent rise in May.

The upward surge was driven by a 7.4 percent rise in energy prices, reflecting a 17.3 percent increase in gasoline prices, the biggest one-month jump in gas prices since a 20.9 percent spurt in September 2005 after Hurricane Katrina had shut Gulf Coast refineries.

 

Analysts are looking for gasoline and other energy costs to retreat in coming months. Already, gasoline pump prices are down by about a dime since the start of July.

Food costs edged up a small 0.1 percent in June, held back by a big drop in the cost of dairy products.

The 0.2 percent rise in core inflation left the core inflation rate rising by a moderate 1.7 percent over the past 12 months, reflecting the downward pressure on costs coming from the prolonged recession.

For June, new car prices jumped by 0.7 percent and clothing costs were also up 0.7 percent. However, those gains ere offset by a 0.6 percent drop in airline fares. Sean and I talk a lot about (how) when you do a record, you’ve been working on it a long time and you’re pretty sick of it by the time somebody else hears it.
