The Campaign for Safe Cosmetics is a broad-based coalition, housed at the Breast Cancer Fund, working to clean up the beauty aisle through public advocacy and market campaigns designed to eliminate dangerous chemicals linked to cancer, reproductive harm and other adverse health impacts from cosmetics and personal care products.

Since the Campaign was launched in 2004, we have educated millions of people about the problem of toxic chemicals in cosmetics, which has markedly increased demand for safer products. Now hundreds of companies fully disclose ingredients and avoid the use of cancer-causing chemicals, reproductive toxicants and other unsafe chemicals, demonstrating these practices are not only possible, but profitable.

The Campaign’s steering committee is made up of the Breast Cancer Fund, the Alliance for a Healthy Tomorrow (represented by Clean Water Action), Friends of the Earth, and Women’s Voices for the Earth.

The Violet Flame is a light so pure that it can dissolve the particles of fear and anger emitted by almost everyone. The flame is composed of shades from lavender, through lilac, to deepest violet and has to be invoked when required.
Transforms negativity into positivity: sickness into health; poverty into plenty, jealousy into self-esteem, greed into generosity and despair into hope.

Our visit to L’occitane in Provence

This article is about the genus of flowering plants known as lavender. For the most widely cultivated species in that genus, see Lavandula angustifolia. For the colour see lavender (color), see Lavender (disambiguation).

Lavender

Species
39 species, including some hybrids, see text.

Lavandula (common name Lavender) is a genus of 39 species of flowering plants in the mint family, Lamiaceae. It is native to the Old World and is found from Cape Verde and the Canary Islands, southern Europe across to northern and eastern Africa, the Mediterranean, southwest Asia to southeast India. Many members of the genus are cultivated extensively in temperate climates as ornamental plants for garden and landscape use, for use as culinary herbs, and also commercially for the extraction of essential oils. The most widely cultivated species, Lavandula angustifolia is often referred to as lavender, and there is a colour named for the shade of the flowers of this species.

Spring
To start your lavender garden in the spring, plant varieties that start blooming in early spring to midspring. Varieties such as Spanish lavender, “Yellow,” “Woolly” or “Sweet” lavender grow well in U.S. Department of Agriculture hardiness zones 8 through 10. These tend to bloom for four to six weeks, with the Spanish and sweet varieties finishing their bloom cycles earliest.
Spring to Summer
English lavender is the most common variety of lavender, growing best in zones 5 through 8. These varieties, such as “Munstead,” “Royal Purple” and “Hidcote,” tend to bloom late in the spring and into early summer. In Mediterranean climates, they stay in bloom for up to three to four weeks, unless the summer becomes unseasonably warm or humid.

Midsummer to Late Summer
Hybrid lavender varieties known as lavandins bloom longer than other varieties and start blooming later, usually in midsummer. Lavandins such as “Grosso,” Provence” and “Seal” are typically more drought- and heat-tolerant than other varieties, helping them grow through late summer.

Lavender oil:

Commercially the plant is grown mainly for the production of essential oil of lavender. This has antiseptic and anti-inflammatory properties. These extracts are also used as fragrances for bath products.

English lavender (Lavandula angustifolia) yields an essential oil with sweet overtones, and can be used in balms, salves, perfumes, cosmetics, and topical applications. Lavandin, Lavandula × intermedia (also known as Dutch lavender), yields a similar essential oil, but with higher levels of terpenes including camphor, which add a sharper overtone to the fragrance.

The lavandins Lavandula × intermedia are a class of hybrids of L. angustifolia and L. latifolia.

The lavandins are widely cultivated for commercial use, since their flowers tend to be bigger than those of English lavender and the plants tend to be easier to harvest, but lavandin oil is regarded by some to be of a lower quality than that of English lavender, with a perfume less sweet.

Lavender Medicinal use:

The essential oil was used in hospitals during World War I.

Lavender is used extensively with herbs and aromatherapy. Infusions are believed to soothe insect bites, burns, and headaches. Bunches of lavender repel insects. In pillows, lavender seeds and flowers aid sleep and relaxation.

An infusion of flowerheads added to a cup of boiling water is used to soothe and relax at bedtime[citation needed]. Lavender oil (or extract of Lavender) is used to treat acne when diluted 1:10 with water, rosewater, or witch hazel; it also treats skin burns and inflammatory conditions.[citation needed]

A study published in 2010 investigated anxiolytic effects and influence on sleep quality. Lavender oil with a high percentage of linalool and linalyl acetate, in the form of capsules, was generally well tolerated. It showed meaningful efficacy in alleviating anxiety and related sleep disturbances.

Lavender oil is approved for use as an anxiolytic in Germany under the name Lasea.

A survey paper on lavender and the nervous system published in 2013 states that, “there is growing evidence suggesting that lavender oil may be an effective medicament in treatment of several neurological disorders.”

Lavender may be very effective with wounds; however, Lavender Honey (created from bees feeding on lavender plants), instead of lavender essential oil has the best effects of uninfected wounds.

OCEANA – KEY BISCAYNE

INTRODUCTION

February 2012 marks the start of the groundbreaking ceremony for the newly announced Oceana, developed by no other than Consultatio, and probably the most unique and exclusive real estate building in Miami.

Oceana is being built on the site of the former Sonesta Hotel, which was one of the first hotels in Key Biscayne but is the last site available for construction on the island. This 10.3 acre and last pristine oceanfront site is located on the east side of Key Biscayne facing the Atlantic ocean. The last building in Key Biscayne was built in 1999 which was the last tower at The Ocean Club.

Oceana will have what Key Biscayne is missing, a NEW building which offers the advantage of enjoying large spaces up to 7500 square feet of living space, superb luxury, oceanfront location and the uniqueness of a low density building with a discreet environment. The ultra exclusive 142 condominium development with 12 luxury Villas adjacent will be the only real alternative when looking for new, large oceanfront condos in Key Biscayne.

Key Biscayne is considered one of the most exclusive areas in Miami and has one of the highest incomes per capita in the United States also home to many international artists, politicians, sport figures, and world reknown executives.

BRIEF DESCRIPTION

This will be a state of the art project; floorplans will range from 1750 SF to 7500 SF, with a very low density of residences (Two towers totalling 142 units on a 10.3 acres site).

What makes it even more unique is that due to the lack of land availability, new, and low density buildings on Key Biscayne, many buyers with budgets up to 7 million who initially looked for luxury oceantfront condos found themselves limited at looking for single family homes in the island where prices just on canal front start at 5 million dollars and offer less attractive benefits.

SALES AND TERMS

Oceana Sales started a few months ago with inventory being placed under contract at fast speed. The downpayment required for the purchase of a residence will be 50%. 30% will be asked at contract date and 20% when the construction reaches the 15th floor in 2014. Construction is estimated to be finished by summer of 2015.

Today’s Developers ask for a substantial upfront downpayment, a known concept in foreign countries, which in part plays an important role lowering the risk tremendously for both the developer and the buyers since financing lapses are out of the equation. Although is not clear yet as to what is the exact amount of down payment required, other ultra luxury condos on preconstruction like Apogee condos in North Miami Beach have practically sold out in record time while asking almost 80% upfront.

DEVELOPMENT TEAM

Coastal Construction is constructing the building, designed by reknown architech Bernardo Fort-Brescia with Arquitectonica.
