Famous Miracles:

The most famous miracle attributed to Saint Valentine involved a note that he sent to a young blind girl named Julia who Valentine had befriended.

Shortly before he was martyred for his faith in Jesus Christ, Valentine wrote Julia a farewell note.

Believers say that God miraculously cured Julia of her blindness so that she could personally read Valentine’s note, rather than just have someone else read it to her.

Valentine signed Julia’s note “From your Valentine,” and that loving note, combined with the memory of Valentine’s support of engaged and married couples in his work as a priest, led to the tradition of sending loving messages on his feast day, Valentine’s Day.

The Legenda Aurea of Jacobus de Voragine, compiled about 1260 and one of the most-read books of the High Middle Ages, gives sufficient details of the saints for each day of the liturgical year to inspire a homily on each occasion.

The very brief vita of St Valentine has him refusing to deny Christ before the “Emperor Claudius in the year 280.

Before his head was cut off, this Valentine restored sight and hearing to the daughter of his jailer. Jacobus makes a play with the etymology of “Valentine”, “as containing valour”.

There are many other legends behind Saint Valentine. One is that in the 1st century AD it is said that Valentine, who was a priest, defied the order of the emperor Claudius and secretly married couples so that the husbands wouldn’t have to go to war.

Soldiers were sparse at this time so this was a big inconvenience to the emperor. Another legend is that Valentine refused to sacrifice to pagan gods.

Being imprisoned for this, Valentine gave his testimony in prison and through his prayers healed the jailer’s daughter who was suffering from blindness.

On the day of his execution he left her a note that was signed “Your Valentine.”

Highclere Village in England

Highclere is a village and civil parish situated in the North Wessex Downs in the Basingstoke and Deane district of Hampshire, England.
It lies in the northern part of the county, near the Berkshire border.

One of the biggest trees I ever seen in my life it was imposing, I just felt like sitting there and imagined all the centuries that went by. So beautiful, so powerful. Majestic !

Early years

The castle stands on the site of an earlier house, which was built on the foundations of the medieval palace of the Bishops of Winchester, who owned this estate from the 8th century.
The original site was recorded in the Domesday Book. Since 1679, the castle has been home to the Carnarvon family.

In 1692, Robert Sawyer, a lawyer and college friend of Samuel Pepys, bequeathed a mansion at Highclere to his only daughter, Margaret, the first wife of the 8th Earl of Pembroke.
Their second son, Robert Sawyer Herbert, inherited Highclere, began its picture collection and created the garden temples.
His nephew and heir Henry Herbert was created Baron Porchester and 1st Earl of Carnarvon by George III.

Sitting on the grounds relax time .

As of late 2012, the Earl and Lady Carnarvon have stated that a dramatic increase in the number of paying visitors has allowed them to begin major repairs both on Highclere’s turrets and its interior.
The family attributes this increase in interest to the on-site filming of Downton Abbey.

The family now live in Highclere during the winter months, but return to their cottage in the summer, when the castle is open to the public.

This is how fat in the body is broken down and rebuilt into chylomicrons, which enter the bloodstream by way of the lymphatic system.

Chylomicrons do not last long in the bloodstream only about eight minutes because enzymes called lipoprotein lipases break the fats into fatty acids.
Lipoprotein lipases are found in the walls of blood vessels in fat tissue, muscle tissue and heart muscle.

Insulin

When you eat a candy bar or a meal, the presence of glucose, amino acids or fatty acids in the intestine stimulates the pancreas to secrete a hormone called insulin.
Insulin acts on many cells in your body, especially those in the liver, muscle and fat tissue.

Insulin tells the cells to do the following:

Absorb glucose, fatty acids and amino acids stop breaking down glucose, fatty acids and amino acids; glycogen into glucose; fats into fatty acids and glycerol; and proteins into amino acids
Start building glycogen from glucose; fats (triglycerides) from glycerol and fatty acids; and proteins from amino acids.

Breaking Down Fat

When you are not eating, your body is not absorbing food. If your body is not absorbing food, there is little insulin in the blood.
However, your body is always using energy; and if you’re not absorbing food, this energy must come from internal stores of complex carbohydrates, fats and proteins.

Under these conditions, various organs in your body secrete hormones:

pancreas – glucagon
pituitary gland – growth hormone
pituitary gland – ACTH (adrenocorticotropic hormone)
adrenal gland – epinephrine (adrenaline)
thyroid gland – thyroid hormone
These hormones act on cells of the liver, muscle and fat tissue, and have the opposite effects of insulin.
When you are not eating, or you are exercising, your body must draw on its internal energy stores. Your body’s prime source of energy is glucose. In fact, some cells in your body, such as brain cells, can get energy only from glucose.

Losing Weight and Losing Fat

Your weight is determined by the rate at which you store energy from the food that you eat, and the rate at which you use that energy.
Remember that as your body breaks down fat, the number of fat cells remains the same; each fat cell simply gets smaller.

Most experts agree that the way to maintain a healthy weight is:

*Eat a balanced diet – appropriate amounts of carbohydrates, fat and protein do not eat excessively – for most people, a diet of 1,500 to 2,000 calories a day is sufficient to maintain a healthy weight
*Exercise regularly
